In ancient times, people believed that jet stones protected against the evil eye, which is the idea that someone's ill intentions towards you can have metaphysical consequences.
Jet is a mineraloid and type of lignite that is formed when decaying wood is subjected to intense heat and pressure, causing it to fossilize into a compact black material. It is rich in carbon and can be black or brownish black in color. Jet has a Mohs hardness of 2.5 to 4 and a specific gravity of 1.30 to 1.34.
